Crystal Cove Tide Pools

We went to Crystal Cove last weekend.  It is one of  my favorite places.  I took these photos at the tide pools.

So Justin's Granny is giving us money for birthdays and christmas and we just had our little camera die on us and so we are thinking a DSLR and we were wondering what kind of camera you have where you got it and for how much! I don't want to go crazy but she is giving us 400 and don't really need anything else and we would love to have a nice camera. Let me know because you take great shots and if I can get out of spending too much more than that I would be stoked! I love you and tell Lilly happy five months!!!

I bought a Cannon Rebel DSLR. I bought the body and the lens seperatly. The body was about $400, on Amazon. I actually got a Tamron lens (look for them on line) They are really good lenses, for a lot less than th4 Cannon. My lens is 550225, so it is pretty big. I wanted to be able to zoom. I am perfectly happy with it, but when most other people use it, they complain that they have to stand far away from the subject. Actually, you don't--just fill the frame with the subject!
Anyway, I really love it , but here are some things you might care about. It is big. It isn't really heavy, but you are not just sticking it in your pocket. Carrying it around it sticks out and it's pretty obvious. You take pics by looking through the view finder, not at the screen. I like that, but you might not. You see the photos right away on the screen, but actually look through the view finder to take the pic. Old school. I think my lens was $125, so all together you are looking at $525. You might not want to spend that much.
Another option is a smaller Cannon. I used my friiend's and it took great pics, had a good zoom, a large # of mega pixs, and was pretty compact. I think they run around $300 or so. I think Cannon are really great cameras. Greg and Jana just bought a smaller Nikon and are not happy with it. It gives really blurry images unless every one is perfectly still. Their last camera was a Cannon and they wish they had stuck with that. Bu, this is just muy opinion. My friend Jeremy, a professional photographer uses Nikon and loves them ,sooo....
Have fun shopping! Hope this helped a bit.

Thanks for the info!!! I was hoping that you were going to say I have this cool point and shoot that costs about $350 bucks and I love it!!! But since that is not the case. I guess we will keep sopink. Well we are looking at the Nikon DSLR and your right about it being big. I like the ones that you can hide in your purse and whip out when passing by a family of four ridding a motorcycle with only the dad wearing the helment. But Justin get's to vote and well we can't get any thing with only $200 for each of us. So I guess we are going to have to go all in and get the BIG guy! Justin's dad said that he is going to keep his eyes open for a package for us and well we can't do the internet thing because living here we MUST have a waranty. So He is waiting for sales at best buy of some thing like that. He got his for 550 with a tripod and a nice bag a cool lense and a good battery last year around Christmas. So I am just going to pray for God to some how Provide for what we need and nothing more or less. He has never failed us before! I just hate spending that much money on something that doesn't make us money back! Well maybe while we are here we'll break into the photography bussness! Thanks again for the info and keep taking pictures! I love them! That is my only pro for the big one is that I love seeing your kids and family and friends on line and I know every one back home will want to see us here and when we have kids well it will come in handy! Love you!

That is true, you have to think of it as an investment. You will have it for a long time and all of the memories you capture with it are priceless. It is hard to spend a lot of money on something like that, but I think it is totally worth it. I waited years before I could get the camera I wanted. I had a lame, old fashioned FILM camera until I got this one. I'll keep my eyes open for deals for you guys too.
