Home Tour

Welcome to our home!
Built in 1952, our house is a fixer.
Our vision is to return the house to way it might have looked, inside and out, when it was built.
We've been here for 2 and half years and have done a lot, and there is always more to be done.

We're big fans of mid century modern design, but our house won't look like a spread from Design Within Reach.
(because, frankly, we do not have $200 to spend on a folding chair. seriously.  we prefer the $3 vintage sort from the thrift store)
And hopefully our home doesn't have this vibe either.
(go check out the link--hilarious)
Our home reflects who we are.
So next to our Eames rocker, you might see a table we bought at a garage sale.
We're not purists.
We just like good design, beautiful colors and filling our home with the things that make us happy and tell our story.

Please take a look around and see what we've done with the place so far.

The Art on our Walls

The Kitchen Remodel

The Vintage, Metal Kitchen Cabinets

The Baby's Corner

There's still more to show you.
Our bedroom, the school room, Aaron's studio, the outside, laundry room.....
And we'll get there.
Slowly but surely.
Thanks for coming to visit!
Check back to see what's new.
Love from,
Greta

A Nursery Tour: A Special Spot for Baby Boy Number 4

Today I have another room tour for you.
This time it is the room of a friend.
It's my first time doing a tour of someone else's house and I liked doing it so much that this might become a regular feature on my blog.
It's inspiring to see what great things other people are doing in their homes.
Real people--not movie stars or people whose homes have been styled by Martha's team before the shoot.
Although, Lindsey has created a nursery that looks like it has been styled for a magazine shoot.
But she did all the styling herself.

So come along and take a peek at Baby Clark's room.
He's Lindsey's 4th baby.  Her 4th boy, in fact.
But just because he is the 4th doesn't mean he doesn't get a special place all his own.
With each baby, Lindsey has created a beautiful, welcoming and warm nursery.
Of course, Baby Clark's room is no exception.

Lindsey has a real talent of bringing together all the details so the room just works.
She is also incredibly inventive and creative.
For example, that painting above the wall of the crib was inspired by a piece of wall paper she had.
She picked the colors (fabulous color palette, right?) and her husband, Nate, copied the pattern on the wall, taped it out and painted.
He's pretty talented too.
It adds such a unique element to the room.
I love it.

The paint colors Lindsey picked out for the wall painting matched fabric she already had from some curtains.  Her mom re purposed the curtains into the crib bumper.  (yes, her mom is amazingly talented too--it's the whole family!)
Isn't it adorable?

Then, she and Lindsey picked out all this other fabric and Lindsey's mom, Judy, made this sweet quilt for Clark's crib.
All the different fabrics work together because Lindsey is using a common color palette throughout the room.
I am such a big fan of finding a color palette you love and making it work for you.
Lindsey obviously has that idea nailed down.

Beyond the wall painting and bedding, the room is full of other thoughtful details.
Like this dresser, painted in the same olive green you'll find in the wall painting, and being used as a changing table.
I love its modern lines.

This shelving unit also has great modern lines.
Lindsey filled it with books, animals and clever storage for a cohesive look that is not at all boring.

It's those details again. She knows how to accessorize.

For art, Lindsey likes to use covers from vintage or new children's books.
Notice that not all the art is animal themed, even though there are a lot of animal things in the room.
It would be boring and too "matchy" to have only jungle animals on everything in the room.
Instead, Lindsey also added art that is appropriate for a little boy; things like tools and outer space.

She also filled shelves with other things little boys love: trains and robots.
Notice how the shelves are painted the same color as the dresser.
It helps everything work together with out having all the furniture be exactly the same style.

The mobile adds another touch of sweetness over the crib.

And these little paper birds sitting on a shelf are just as sweet as can be.

These shelves are painted the soft green color you'll see in the wall painting.
They are full of the same paper animals that I mentioned here.
Lindsey was the one who gave me the deer.  You can find them for yourself right here.

This nursery is one of the sweetest I have ever seen,
Lindsey is an artist and I am so happy to share her talent with you.
And so happy to see a sweet little boy in a room made with love, just for him.

Welcome to the world Baby Clark!

I am so hoping this will be my last post for a few days.
Our new baby can't come soon enough!
And even if I am not here with a post myself, I'll have something fun and exciting to share with you.
So please do check in.
Love from,
Greta
